It has been almost two weeks now since we lost Buddy. We've tried to be proactive by placing ads, hanging flyers, calling shelters, vets, and petstores - you name it. The hard part is just waiting. That and seeing that most of the signs that you put up just a week ago have all but disappeared due to rain, wind, or other reasons. (It's time to hang more flyers and have more printed - we're close to using up the 100 we had printed last week.)
It's been tough but there have been a few cockatiel sightings in the area that at least give us hope that he's still out there somewhere. Our first call was from someone who said that someone else told him that they had found a cockatiel on the ball field at the park. Unfortunately, however, he couldn't recall who told him and wasn't sure which park, either. Just in case, I promptly went to the big park on Sam Ridley and put up flyers. The next call came on Sunday from someone who saw a cockatiel in the Bent Tree subdivision. So my husband and I spent over an hour on Sunday evening looking around that area, knocking on doors, leaving flyers, and talking to everyone who happened to be out walking or riding bikes, etc.
And finally, yesterday morning, someone called and told me that they had seen a cockatiel sitting in a tree at Ed's Bait Shop, just right down the road a piece, about an hour or so before. I high tailed it there, first going into the shop to ask for permission to look around. The clerk said that he, too, had seen a white bird fly past the window about 45 minutes before I arrived. I searched high and low and called Buddy's name like crazy but to no avail. I drove down the road a piece and left a few signs at the newer subdivisions. Then later, I came back at both mid-afternoon and right before dark. No sign of him anywhere.
Where are you, Buddy?
